Kuwait Stamp Collections
Kuwait is a Sheikdom in the northwestern coast of the Persian Gulf. It was under British protection until 1961, when it became a fully independent state. Stamps of India were overprinted with the Kuwait country name until 1948, when stamps of Great Britain were overprinted, with the country name, and the currency of India. The first stamps printed exclusively for Kuwait were issued in 1959, and included a vignette of Sheik Abdullah. Upon independence in 1961, Kuwaiti stamps used the Kuwaiti currency, the Dinar.
